These are nine examples from a series of construction paintings, which I have been pursuing since about 1999. These paintings begin with a plywood base on a wooden frame. I build and assemble various objects, including stones, rope, bb's, nails, tar, burlap, wood, modeling paste, foam, found objects, etc. on the plywood surface until the composition is more or less complete. The entire construction is then covered with three or four layers of white enamel paint, which gives me a fresh surface to paint on with oil paint. Finished pieces are usually about 32 X 30 X 3 in. (79 X 76 X 5 cm) and can project several inches off the wall, which gives them a somewhat three-dimensional feel. These paintings do not require framing, since they have built-in wooden frames.
