Each work consists of five vertical panels made of 5/8 in. (16 mm) plywood, mounted on 1/4 in. (6 mm) plywood backing with black wool stretched over the top. I cut and assemble the individual panels and then use acrylic and enamel paints. I continuously alternate between painting and sanding with a hand sander (using it like an eraser) while building layers of colors and meshing words, letters and symbols into a cohesive image. On some of the works I also used a dremel tool and a drill press. There are two slightly different sizes represented here: 14 X 55 in. (36 X 140 cm) and 15.5 X 52 in. (39 X 132 cm); the paintings have matte black aluminum frames.
